Storm Water Management For Your Landscape

Storm water management is a key aspect of landscape design. Most people are enthusiastic about planting a rain garden, but it’s not always the primary solution. I commonly suggest that clients address their drainage concerns before proceeding with a planting design and installation. Read on to learn about storm water management for your landscape.

I am the neighborhood steward of the storm drains on my end of the street. My first attempt at managing storm water is to rid the drains of leaves, sweet gum balls, and trash before heavy storms are predicted. I have street parking and try to prevent street flooding by keeping the 2 storm drains free of debris.
Drainage is an integral step in storm water management. In 2019, I installed new gutters and drainage solutions from my downspouts as a serious attempt to manage storm water. This investment prevented standing water along the front walkway and foundation, prevented a soggy lawn path on the Northside, and prevented mulch washout. However, heavy storm water still flowed from the street and through my yard. I have plans for two rain gardens as a third step in storm water management! Stay tuned to see progress on my rain gardens.
